I’ll Love You Forever (Henry Holt, 2025)
In this collection of insightful essays, Giaae shares her vast knowledge of Korean history and the rise of K-pop with her own experiences as a bilingual and bicultural Korean American. Giaae peels back the layers of Korean society and history through the lens of fandom, knitting together the trends she observes in K-pop’s idol culture and Korea’s obsessions with academics, plastic surgery, female sexuality, and more.
She also openly shares how K-pop stars and their songs have been there for her throughout various stages of her own life, including her struggles with body image (such as her decision to get blepharoplasty), depression, and her reflections on feminism through following K-pop star Irene from Red Velvet.
Giaae’s passion for the topic is unmatched: her love for K-pop shines through as she delves into the back stories of idols like Suga from BTS and Taeyeon of Girls’ Generation, exploring their significance both in her own life and in the world at large. Expansive, thoughtful, and catchy as a pop song, I’LL LOVE YOU FOREVER offers a comprehensive look into the K-pop industry and its superfans.
